What is Oxycodone?
Oxycodone is a potent opioid analgesic medication used for the management of severe pain. It belongs to the opioid class of drugs and is derived from thebaine, an alkaloid found in the opium poppy.
Oxycodone functions by binding to opioid receptors in the central nervous system, modulating the perception of pain. Commonly prescribed in various formulations, such as immediate-release and extended-release tablets, oxycodone is known by brand names like OxyContin and Percocet.
While effective in pain relief, its use is associated with the risk of dependence, addiction, and respiratory depression, necessitating careful medical supervision and consideration of alternative pain management strategies.

Why Test for Synthetic Oxycodone?
Testing for synthetic oxycodone is imperative due to the potential risks associated with its misuse and abuse. As a potent opioid analgesic, oxycodone is commonly prescribed for managing severe pain. However, the illicit production and distribution of synthetic versions pose significant dangers. Testing helps identify instances where individuals may be using counterfeit or illegally manufactured oxycodone, which can contain unpredictable and harmful substances.
Accurate and reliable testing serves various purposes, including ensuring patient safety, preventing opioid misuse, and addressing public health concerns. Individuals taking prescribed oxycodone may undergo routine drug tests to monitor adherence and identify potential diversion or misuse. In the context of law enforcement, drug testing assists in detecting illicit trafficking and distribution of synthetic oxycodone, contributing to efforts to curb the opioid epidemic.
Moreover, as synthetic opioids can be more potent and unpredictable than their pharmaceutical counterparts, testing becomes a vital tool in preventing accidental overdoses and adverse health effects. Rapid and effective testing methods, such as single-panel drug test strips, offer a user-friendly solution for detecting synthetic oxycodone, enabling timely intervention and support for individuals at risk. Overall, testing for synthetic oxycodone plays a crucial role in safeguarding public health, addressing substance abuse, and mitigating the impact of the opioid crisis.

Test Instructions:
- Remove the drug test from its sealed pouch and use it as soon as possible. For best results, perform the assay within an hour.
- After that, hold the strip by the end, where you can see the product name. So, to avoid contamination, do not touch the strip membrane.
- Then, holding the strip vertically, dip the test strip in the urine specimen for at least 10-15 seconds. Do not immerse above the maximum line (MAX) on the test strip. That’s about 1/5th of the way up the strip.
- After the drug test has finished, then remove the strip from the specimen and place it on a non-absorbent flat surface. Start the timer and wait for the colored band(s) to appear. Finally, read the result at 5 minutes. Do not interpret it after 10 minutes.
Evaluating Your Test Results
Positive Test Result: Only one colored band appears, in the control region ©. No apparent colored band appears in the test region (T)
Negative Test Result: Two colored bands appear on the membrane. One brand appears in the control regions © and another band appears in the test region (T).
Invalid Test Result: The control band fails to appear. Results from any test which has not produced a control band at the specified read time must be discarded. Please review the procedure and repeat with a new test. If the problems persist, discontinue using the kit immediately and contact your local distributor.
