Overdose Reduction: OPI | Opiate Testing Strips
OPI Testing Strips:
The OPI – Opiate testing strips provided by Overdose Reduction is a fast and accurate urine test strip that will deliver results in under 10 minutes. The test detected the presence of OPI in urine at the 2000 ng/mL cutoff.
Using dip strips has become some of the more popular ways of detecting some of the most common drugs used today. Its ease of use and accuracy have made dip strips a preferred way to facilitate a urine drug test for both employment and medical purposes.
What are Opiates? Opiates, also known as narcotics, are a category of drugs derived from opium, a naturally occurring substance extracted from the opium poppy plant. Opiates include substances like morphine and codeine, which are commonly used for pain relief in medical settings. These drugs act on the brain’s opioid receptors, producing pain relief and a sense of euphoria. However, they also carry a high potential for abuse and addiction.
Opiate abuse refers to the misuse of these drugs for non-medical purposes. Today, opiate abuse has evolved to include both prescription opioids and illicit substances like heroin. The abuse of prescription opioids typically involves obtaining these medications without a legitimate medical need, either through doctor shopping, forging prescriptions, or obtaining them from friends or family members. Some individuals may misuse prescription opioids by taking higher doses than prescribed or using them in ways other than intended, such as crushing and snorting or injecting them.
Illicit opiates like heroin are derived from morphine or created synthetically. They are often cheaper and more readily available than prescription opioids, making them an attractive alternative for those seeking to satisfy their opioid cravings. Heroin is typically injected, but it can also be smoked or snorted. The risk of overdose is particularly high with illicit opiates, as their purity and potency can vary significantly.
Why Test for Opiate?
Opiate abuse can have severe physical, mental, and social consequences. Regular use can lead to physical dependence, where the body adapts to the presence of the drug and requires higher doses to achieve the desired effects. Addiction can develop, characterized by compulsive drug-seeking behavior and an inability to control or stop use despite negative consequences. Overdose is a significant risk, as opiates can depress the central nervous system and cause respiratory failure.
Efforts to combat opiate abuse and addiction have focused on various strategies. These include increasing access to treatment and recovery services, promoting responsible prescribing practices among healthcare professionals, implementing prescription drug monitoring programs to prevent diversion, and providing education and awareness programs to inform the public about the risks of opiate abuse.
Overall, understanding opiates and their potential for abuse is crucial for addressing the ongoing opioid crisis and developing effective prevention and intervention strategies to help individuals struggling with opiate addiction.
Benefits of Using Drug Test Strips:
Using test strips are beneficial for drug test administrators who require the testing of many individuals within a short period of time. Where blood testing can be costly and time-consuming, test strips are a more cost-effective solution with results delivered within minutes.
Product Information:
Each test strip is 99% accurate, minimizing false positives. Positive results and negative results will be displayed in under 10 minutes. Before beginning the rapid drug test, you will need:
- A container (for the urine specimen to collect)
- Gloves
- Eye protection
- Stop Watch
Test Instructions:
- Remove the fentanyl drug test from its sealed pouch and use it as soon as possible. For best results, perform the assay within an hour.
- After that, hold the strip by the end, where you can see the product name. So, to avoid contamination, do not touch the strip membrane.
- Then, holding the strip vertically, dip the test strip in the urine specimen for at least 10-15 seconds. Do not immerse above the maximum line (MAX) on the test strip. That’s about 1/5th of the way up the strip.
- After the fentanyl drug test has finished, then remove the strip from the specimen and place it on a non-absorbent flat surface. Start the timer and wait for the colored band(s) to appear. Finally, read the result at 5 minutes. Do not interpret it after 10 minutes.
Evaluating Your Test Results
Positive Test Result: Only one colored band appears, in the control region ©. No apparent colored band appears in the test region (T)
Negative Test Result: Two colored bands appear on the membrane. One brand appears in the control regions © and another band appears in the test region (T).
Invalid Test Result: The control band fails to appear. Results from any test which has not produced a control band at the specified read time must be discarded. Please review the procedure and repeat with a new test. If the problems persist, discontinue using the kit immediately and contact your local distributor.
